The Western Front Today - Buttes New British Cemetery & New Zealand Memorial to the Missing
Located in Polygon Wood the Buttes New British cemetery - along with the Australian 5th Division Memorial and Polygon Wood cemetery - also contains one of the New Zealand government's Memorial to the Missing panels.
The cemetery was established after the war and contains 1,317 U.K., 564 Australian and 167 New Zealand burials: of these 1,703 are unknown. The cemetery also contains 35 special memorials. The site upon which the cemetery now stands was formerly a drill-ground: as such the headstones were designed to appear as if ready for inspection.
The New Zealand Memorial to the Missing panel at the rear of the cemetery (and designed by Charles Holden) lists 383 servicemen with no known graves.
