Who's Who - Maxime Lenoir
Adjutant Maxime Albert Lenoir (1888-1916) achieved air ace status within the French air force during World War One by scoring 11 accredited victories between 1915-16.
Lenoir, who was born on 22 December 1888 in Charge, was already an experienced pilot by the time war broke out in August 1914 and sought a transfer to the French Air Service at the close of 1914.
In the course of his 11 victories during 1915-16 Lenoir was twice wounded. The recipient of the Medaille Militaire and the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, he was shot and killed on 25 October 1916 when his SPAD S.VII was shot down on the Western Front while he was serving with N23.
Shrapnel comprised steel balls ejected from shells upon detonation.
