The Western Front Today - 'Y' Ravine Cemetery
'Y' Ravine cemetery is situated within the Newfoundland Beaumont-Hamel Memorial Park.
The cemetery holds 366 burials of men who fell in the Somme Offensive between July and November 1916.
The deep natural ravine to which the cemetery's name alludes actually lies to the left of the cemetery, once leading from the German front line to Beaumont-Hamel village.
The headstones of the 38 Newfoundlanders buried in this cemetery are engraved with the woodland caribou, the badge of their regiment.
