The Western Front Today - Hamel Cemetery
Hamel cemetery, located on the south side of Hamel village, contains 485 U.K., 3 German, 1 New Zealand and 80 unknown burials. The cemetery also contains 4 special memorials.
First established in August 1915 by local units and field ambulances it remained in use until June 1917. Further burials were added following the capture of the village by the Allies in 1918.
The cemetery was also variously known as 'White City' or 'Brooke Street Trench' and was subsequently enlarged after the war with the addition of 48 graves from the vicinity.
